CCS (Carbon dioxide Capture and Storage)

WHY CO2 should not go to the air?

Following the accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, the Japanese government decided to revert back to fossil fuel and combustion based power generation for totally 87.7% of Japanese energy.
Unfortunately the burning of fossil fuels, such as oil and coal, produces large amounts carbon dioxide (CO2) that we know has a significant impact on climate change.

CO2 Separation

Problems CO2 Separation

  • Current gas separation method for processing the CO2 emissions in the thermal power plant consume 15-20% of the generated electric energy.
  • The cost of separation, accounting for about 60% of the entire cost of the CCS.

HOW to remove CO2 from the air

-2010s 2020s 2030s Chemical Absorption by Liquid Oxy-combustion Physical Adsorption Chemical Absorption by Solid Membrane Separation ¥4200/t-CO2 ¥3000/t-CO2 ¥2000/t-CO2 ¥1000/t-CO2

Gas Separation Membrane can selectively permeate CO2 from Mix gas!
It has attracted a lot attention, but has yet to achieve wide spread practical use because of poor property.
Pureosity's materials have achieved a gas permeability as many as 100 to 1000 times that of conventional membrane materials.
